Does YallaGo work with a foreign SIM in Syria?
US phone, still on my home eSIM. I do not want to hunt a taxi in Arabic at midnight if an app will do it.
Uber’s map shows a Damascus. That cannot be right. People keep naming YallaGo. Does it take a foreign number, or do I need the Syrian SIM first?
And once it works — cash, or can I put a card on it?

No. YallaGo sends an SMS. A US or EU number will not confirm. Buy the line at an official Syriatel or MTN branch after the stamp, then the app.
Uber does not pick up in Damascus. The Uber city page that says Damascus is Oregon. Close it. Careem is not the tourist pickup either.
Passenger app, not the driver listing. App Store, Play, or yallago.net. Do not sideload a random APK. The company’s Arabic page lists a white passenger app for Damascus and Aleppo, and a Pro app it says also covers Homs and Hama. If the first finds no cars, try the other. Independent 2026 notes used it in Damascus.
Cash pounds at the end. Not a foreign card. Pay what the app shows. Get out if the driver asks for something else. Until the SIM works, a yellow taxi you priced with kam?. YallaGo is in town. Do not plan Damascus–Aleppo on it.

Tried my Spanish number first because I was lazy. SMS never came. Next morning, Syriatel branch, passport and stamp, physical card, WhatsApp opened at the counter. Then YallaGo confirmed in about a minute.
Drivers called in Arabic. I stayed on the pin and waved. Paid pounds, what the app said. One guy wanted extra — I cancelled and requested again. Uber’s Damascus was Oregon, as advertised. I still used a yellow taxi the night I landed, before the SIM. Do not make the app your airport plan.
