Couvre-toi, chaussures dehors, un petit billet cash si tu n’es pas là pour prier. Confirme à la porte. Les non-musulmans sont bienvenus à la mosquée des Omeyyades s’ils s’habillent pour. Le tombeau de marbre à l’intérieur, c’est Yahya — Jean-Baptiste pour les chrétiens. C’est une cour de vie quotidienne, pas une ruine. Tu n’as pas besoin d’un circuit. - Vérifié le 13 septembre 2026. Les horaires se contredisent encore en 2026 : une liste d’opérateur 09:00–21:00 ; d’autres pages visiteurs 08:00–20:00 ou 11:00–21:00 ; un guide 2026 09:00–19:00. Pause à la prière. Le vendredi, la cour est d’abord au culte — ne traite pas midi le vendredi comme un créneau de visite. Confirme à la porte.

- Les musulmans entrent pour prier. Les non-musulmans paient un petit montant cash à la porte — pas un billet de musée imprimé. Une feuille d’opérateur 2026 imprime encore 25 000 à l’échelle des anciennes livres ; la même feuille appelle parfois ce chiffre la location de l’abaya pour les femmes. D’autres pages disent un don ou quelques dollars. Le barème antiquités de janvier 2026, tel que cet opérateur l’a publié, n’inclut pas cette mosquée. Prends des livres. Demande si c’est des nouvelles ou des anciennes. Confirme à la porte.

- Couvre épaules et genoux. Femmes : ton foulard, ou la robe à la porte — prends le foulard ; on n’avance pas que la robe soit gratuite. Hommes : pas de short. Chaussures dehors ; porte-les ou utilise les casiers. On peut envoyer les femmes à une porte de côté. Ne photographie pas les gens en prière sans demander.

Can non-Muslims visit the Umayyad Mosque?
Yes. Dress for it. Walk in from Souq al-Hamidiyya. You do not need a tour office. Muslims enter to pray. Non-Muslims are welcome outside prayer when the door takes them. Friday noon is worship first — do not treat it as a sightseeing slot.
How do I get there?
Start Hamidiyya from the citadel end. That is where the taxi usually drops. The lane ends at the Jupiter columns and the mosque door. You walk it. A car does not reach the gate. After the visit, Azem Palace is minutes south if it is open. The rest of the day is on Damascus.
What are the hours?
The lists still disagree in 2026. The box above names them. In Your Pocket prints 09:00–19:00 and closes tourists at prayer. Syrian Guides prints 09:00–21:00. Other visitor pages print 08:00–20:00 or 11:00–21:00. Confirm at the door that morning. The courtyard pauses at prayer even when a website clock does not.
How much is the ticket?
Muslims enter to pray. Non-Muslims pay a small cash amount at the door — not a printed museum ticket. Syrian Guides still prints 25,000 SYP for foreign non-Muslims. The January 2026 antiquities circular, as that same operator published it, does not list this mosque among first- or second-grade sites. Other pages say a donation or a few dollars. Carry pounds. Ask new or old. Confirm at the door.
What should I wear?
Cover shoulders and knees. Women: a scarf of your own. The door may hand a robe — bring the scarf; we do not treat the robe as free. Men: no shorts. Shoes off. Carry them or use the racks. What do I look at?
The marble courtyard is daily life — children, talk, shade — not a ruin. Inside, the marble shrine is Yahya. Christians know him as John the Baptist. The gold mosaics sit on the walls above the courtyard. You do not need a guide to stand there. Saladin’s tomb is next to the complex; that is another door.
If this fails
- The door is at prayer: wait in the lane or the souq. It reopens.
- Friday noon: come another hour. The courtyard is for worship first.
- They quote a number you cannot parse: ask new or old. Carry extra pounds.
- A tout sells a “required guide”: you do not need one to dress or to enter.
