Will travel insurance cover Syria if FCDO says don’t go?
UK passport. Annual “worldwide” policy from the bank. Small print follows FCDO against-all, which Syria still is.
Tour blogs keep pushing IATI as the one company that covers Syria. I opened their quote form last week and Syria was not even a destination I could pick.
I need medical and evacuation in writing, not a blog table. Is there actually a policy that names Syria, or am I flying uninsured if I go?

Your bank “worldwide” policy will almost certainly not pay. GOV.UK, still current this month, says insurance can be invalidated if you travel against FCDO against-all. World Nomads UK and Allianz Assistance UK say the same in their own wording.
IATI is not “the one company.” Their Syria blog still shows euro tables. Travellers in February and August 2026 wrote that Syria does not appear in the quote form. IATI staff replied on 27 August 2026 that this cover is not among the products they currently offer. A January Reddit comment said an EU resident had booked it. I will not freeze either as the tourist answer.
You need three sentences on a certificate, not on a blog: Syria is named; travelling against official advice does not void it; emergency medical and evacuation are in. Then read what is still out — war and terrorism often stay excluded. Specialist desks exist. We do not recommend a firm or a price.
The hospital in Damascus wants cash now. The policy, if it pays, pays later. Carry dollars for a clinic. GHIC is not this trip.
