Bosra, Syria (Bosra al-Sham): a morning south from Damascus, not a stop on the week north. Sleep Damascus. Independent travellers do this without a tour; you can ask for a bus. Some 2026 operators still sell it as a tour. Ask that morning which bay or hired car. If they send you, walk the theatre then the basalt lanes. Cash pounds at the citadel gate. Confirm the last seat back that morning.

Getting there

About 140 km south, about two hours by car on the Daraa road. Some visitor pages say 2.5 to 3. A hired car is the comfortable version; agree the wait and the cash before you leave. Garage names disagree and have moved: older notes said Baramkeh; a February 2026 independent thread said direct buses to Bosra al-Sham exist; Arabic 2026 pages still send people via Daraa then a taxi east, about 40 km. Arabic notes in July 2026 said the Daraa garage had left Bab Musalla — some name al-Tadamon at Dawaar al-Battikh, a governorate note named Sharia al-Thalathin. Do not go to Harasta for this — that bay is north, the M5. Ask the hotel which southbound bay is running. Confirm the last seat back that morning. You may need a night if they strand you — that is the warning, not a hotel list. Sleep is Damascus. Do not add this to the seven-day line. Getting around Syria has the same note.

A day here

  1. 1Leave Damascus in the morning. South, not the M5. Shared car or driver, or the garage the hotel names.
  2. 2Cash pounds at the citadel gate. The theatre is inside later walls. Steep stairs; staff can point to an easier way onto the stage.
  3. 3Walk the seating, then the basalt lanes. Neighbourhood, not a museum pair. Mosque if open: modest dress. Same castle gate in operator notes.
  4. 4Be on the road back to Damascus in daylight. Last seats have been early. Seats thin out in the afternoon. If they strand you, that is the night this page warned about.
  5. 5Do not add Suwayda, Shahba, or the seven-day north. That is a different holiday.
