Getting there

West of Homs. Distance lists disagree: about 40 km in English and car notes, about 60 km in Arabic pages. By car it is around 45 minutes to an hour. A hired car is the comfortable version; agree the wait and the cash before you leave. Microbuses to al-Hosn exist; they are not a timetable. Wikivoyage and an older local note both had a garage seat from Homs in under an hour. Ask the hotel which bay runs west. Confirm the last seat back that morning. Seats thin out in the afternoon. 1. 1Leave Homs in the morning. Shared car or driver west, to the gate. Not Damascus.
2. 2Cash pounds at the ticket window. Shoes for the ramps. Water. Allow two hours.
3. 3Outer walls, then the inner courts. Chapel if they open it — the hall in that court, same ticket, not St George. Some edges have no fence — walk the inner courts if heights bother you. Restoration is listed through 2026–2027; walk what they open.
