Damascus to Aleppo, Syria

You already have the stamp. You slept the old city — that first night is How to book a hotel in Syria. This is the northbound morning on the M5. You do not need a tour for this motorway.

Which garage do I use?

The tourist line is the M5: Damascus, Homs, Hama, Aleppo. About 350 to 360 kilometres. About five hours plus checkpoints.

Two northbound names still appear in 2026 Arabic reporting: **Harasta** (كراجات البولمان حرستا) and **al-Abbasiyeen** (كراجات العباسيين). Harasta is the Pullman bay — the coach north, including Aleppo. Abbasiyeen is where shared vans and hop-hop cars still sell the same cities. Arabic March 2026 field notes priced Aleppo at both. An independent 2025 pin put long-distance coaches at Harasta and the vans at Abbasiyeen. Both can be true the same morning.

Ask the hotel which bay is running north today. Maps may say Harasta, Pullman, Abbasiyeen, or Qaboun. Qaboun is the district; Arabic August 2026 reporting still had Abbasiyeen working, and a new centre there was being studied, not a tourist timetable. Search the Arabic strings. You will not walk it from Bab Touma. Yellow taxi, kam? before the door shuts, or YallaGo in Syria once you have a Syrian number. YallaGo is in town. Do not plan this highway on that app. A US card is not the garage window.

In Aleppo, 2025–26 independent notes still named the Pullman garage at Ramouseh — كراج البولمان بحلب. Then a taxi to the citadel. Ask the hotel which bay.

Pullman, servees, or a hired car?

Pullman is the coach. Buy at the company window in the garage, not from the first man who takes your bag. A January 2026 thread said a Pullman seat was easy. Another 2026 note said go to the office because the Damascus end is loud. Both can be true. You do not need a reservation as a rule. You do need a window that names Aleppo.

Servees is a shared van. It leaves when it is full. Hop-hop in the Abbasiyeen area is the same idea. March 2026 Arabic notes had hop-hop a little cheaper than the Pullman board that week, and also said vans can cost more because they carry fewer people. Ask at the glass. Do not assume the van is the bargain.

A hired car with a driver is the same M5 with a hotel door at each end. Operators in 2026 advertised about US$180 for a full day anywhere; independent 2025 day-trip quotes for Krak or Palmyra sat around US$200. Agree the route, the wait, and the cash currency before you sit. A page that sells a car will tell you the bus does not wait at your hotel. That is their product. This page is the garage.

How long is Damascus to Aleppo?

About five hours plus checkpoints. Hire desks that start at the hotel write 4.5 to 5.5 hours of driving, and 6 to 7 hours door to door. The garage is not the hotel. Leave slack.

A garage seat to Aleppo has been a handful of dollars to about fifteen. Ask new or old before you pay — that fight is on Cash in Syria. Arabic field notes in March 2026, at Abbasiyeen and Harasta, sat around 1,200 to 1,350 new pounds (they also wrote 120 to 150 thousand). Some hop-hop windows were 1,100 new; some offices undercut the ministry board at 1,000. English 2026 pages still print 50 to 70 thousand. If the number looks like a fortune, they are speaking old pounds. Divide by 100, or walk to the next window. We will not quote one ticket. Fuel moves it. The desk that morning is the fare.

Domestic flights between Damascus and Aleppo are sometimes sold at airline offices. The M5 is the default. Do not treat an airline board as a timetable you can quote from here — Flights to Syria. There is no tourist train to lean on.

What happens at a checkpoint?

Passport and stamp out. Polite. No photographs of uniforms. Then you continue. That is the usual stop, not a news list. Same note as Is Syria safe to visit.

Do I stop in Homs and Hama?

You pass them. You do not have to collect them as extra cities on this ride.

Homs is the M5 sleep on the 7-day Syria itinerary: Krak one morning, Palmyra the other. If you are on that week, you get off there. If you are going through to Aleppo today, Homs is a stretch of dual carriageway and a fuel stop.

Hama is a stop, not a night. Norias if you have an hour. Then the road.

When is the last seat?

Not a timetable. Leave in the morning. Confirm at the garage that day. Servees leaves when the van is full; a late start can mean a long wait. Pullman is more like a coach and still not a printed last bus you can quote from here. If the bay is empty, wait for the next car or hire one. Do not plan a night arrival because a blog named a last seat last year.

If this fails

• The hotel and the map disagree on the bay: ask for Harasta Pullman or Abbasiyeen, in Arabic. Taxi to the one they name today.
• The board is in old pounds: divide by 100, or the next window. Same rule as Cash in Syria.
• The first man takes your bag and names a price: the company window inside. If the van is not going to Aleppo, get out.
• The car is full: the next one. That is how servees works.
• A checkpoint holds you: wait, papers, no argument, no camera. If they turn the car around, take the other road or wait for morning.
• Someone says you need a tour for this highway: you do not. Do I need a tour to visit Syria?.
• You wanted a plane: Flights to Syria. Still plan the garage.
• You wanted YallaGo for this: in town only. YallaGo in Syria.
