YallaGo in Syria
The taxi app travellers name. Syrian number first. Cash pounds at the end. Uber does not pick up here.

Checked 13 September 2026 against independent 2026 notes in Damascus (including In Your Pocket’s taxi page and a Belgian traveller’s Damascus walk), Levant24’s 7 August 2026 YallaGo reporting, the company’s own Arabic download page, and the circuit already on Getting around Syria. Fares move. If a practical detail below is wrong, tell us.
Does Uber work in Syria?
No. Uber does not pick up in Damascus. The Uber city page that says Damascus is Oregon. A site selling “Uber Syria” is not the global app. Do not put a foreign card on it. Careem is not the tourist pickup either.
The app travellers actually name is YallaGo (يلاغو on the company’s own boards). Same idea as a ride-hail: pin, estimate, car, cash. It is not a tour.
Do I need a Syrian number?
Yes. The app sends an SMS. A US or EU number will not confirm. Buy the line at an official Syriatel or MTN branch after the stamp — that walk is Syria SIM card for foreigners. Airalo will not give you this number.
A forum thread said you need a Syrian ID. That is not the tourist desk. Official branches register a foreign passport with the entry stamp. Until the SIM works, a yellow taxi you priced with kam?.
How do I use it?
Passenger app, not the driver (safeer) listing. App Store, Play, or the company’s page at yallago.net. Do not sideload a random APK.
The company’s Arabic page lists a white passenger app for Damascus and Aleppo, and a Pro app it says also covers Homs and Hama and the other governorates. Independent 2026 notes used YallaGo in Damascus and named Aleppo. One forum comment said only Pro still works. We will not freeze one listing. If the first app finds no cars, try the other.
Drop at a gate of the old city; walk inside. The first walking day is on Damascus. Pin the hotel. Drivers may call in Arabic. Wave. You do not need a shared language if the pin is right.
The app shows an estimate. Traffic can change it. Independent notes disagree on whether the car is an old yellow or an air-conditioned one. Both can be true. The number on the screen is the point.
Cash or card?
Cash pounds at the end. Independent 2026 notes and an American traveller quoted by Levant24 in August 2026: Syrian pounds, not a foreign card on file. Ask new or old — that fight is on Cash in Syria. We will not publish one in-town fare. Pay what the app shows. Get out if the driver asks for something else.
ElectroTaxi and similar apps exist. Same idea: estimate, cash. YallaGo is the name 2026 travellers actually search.
Other cities? The highway?
This page is in town. Damascus to Aleppo is still a garage seat or a hired car. That is on Getting around Syria. The company has talked about intercity later. Do not plan the M5 on this app.
If Homs is empty on the white app, that is why the company lists Pro. If both are empty, kam? on the street.
If this fails
- The SMS never comes: you are still on a foreign number. Syria SIM card for foreigners, then the app.
- The airport kiosk is closed: yellow taxi that night. Branch after breakfast. Then YallaGo.
- The first listing finds no cars: the other passenger app, or kam?.
- The driver calls and you share no language: stay on the pin. Wave. Cancel and request again if the car never moves.
- The quote on the street is sillier than the app: take the app, or the next yellow.
- Uber opens and offers Damascus: Oregon, or a clone. Close it.
What this page will not tell you
A live fare from the citadel to Shaalan. A driver WhatsApp list. A wallet you must load.
That a tour is required to cross town. Independent travellers use this app.
