How to book a hotel in Syria
Booking.com is not the working board. Maps, then WhatsApp, email, or walk in. Cash at the desk. Passport for the register. Pin the building. A tour is not required.

Does Booking.com work in Syria?
No. It is not the working board for a night in Syria. Laura Meyers in September 2026 still booked on Maps. Anna Powaska in January booked elsewhere. In Your Pocket treats Booking, Expedia and Airbnb as absent. This session Hostelworld printed zero hostels in Damascus. Agoda’s Damascus city URL dumped a generic search, not a room list.
The Booking.com site may load. UnblockSyria recorded the site and app working on Syrian connections from late July 2026 after a February block. Loading is not a reservation. If the calendar is empty, that is expected. Do not sit at the border refreshing it.
How do I actually book?
Find the building on Google Maps or Maps.me. Message the hotel on WhatsApp or email: your name, dates, and a pin. Or walk in and look at a room. Independents in 2026 did all three. Damascus still has empty mid-range beds. Centre hotels sit close enough to compare.
You do not need a tour to sleep. You do not need a hotel voucher for the visa on arrival. One independent likes a paper confirmation for the border. Walk-in is ordinary. A WhatsApp yes is enough if you want a first-night pin.
Some independents used a local Syrian website. Those boards are new. Reviews are thin. In Your Pocket still sees a non-refundable fee paid to an account abroad, with the rest in cash at the desk. We will not treat one URL as the method. Maps, the hotel’s own WhatsApp, or the door.
If WhatsApp comes back in Arabic only: send the pin and the dates again. Numbers travel. You do not need shared English to sleep.
Where do visitors sleep in Damascus?
Inside the walls. Around the Umayyad Mosque, and around Bab Touma. That is where Laura Meyers and Anna Powaska actually slept. The lanes are walkable. Taxis cannot always reach the door; pin it and walk the last minutes. Mezzeh and the embassy hotels are a different job.
This page is not a ranked list. We will not name a best ten. Look at the room. Cheap beds can share a bathroom. Confirm hot water and a light that stays on after dark.
What does a room cost?

Some operator pages start the cheap band at about US$40. Named 2026 backpacker rooms were about US$14–20. Ask at the door. WhatsApp to a courtyard house can come back at the luxury end. Walk-in still finds the cheap band. The daily total is on How much does Syria cost per day?.
Desks that take foreigners often quote dollars. The souq wants pounds. Ask which you are paying. Confirm new pounds or old if the receipt is in SYP.
Cash, cards, and the passport
Cash on arrival is the plan. Clean US dollars for the nights. The hotel may take dollars or euros and give change in pounds. Do not budget an ATM. How to carry the notes is on Cash in Syria.
Visa and Mastercard each completed a first live international payment in Syria in late August 2026. Coverage is not nationwide. A Damascus hotel terminal is a bonus. Your bank may still decline it. Carry the notes.
Passport at check-in. That is how the desk registers you. It takes a minute. Take the booklet back. Write the hotel address down; the Syria SIM card for foreigners form asks for one. Pin the building before you sleep — YallaGo in Syria drivers may call in Arabic.
Can women book a hotel alone?
Independent women in 2026 booked alone, walked in alone, and slept without a group. A tour is not required. This page is not a female-only hotel list. Night packing is on Solo female travel in Syria.
If this fails
Booking.com, Hostelworld or Agoda is empty. That is expected. Find the building on Maps, message WhatsApp, or walk in. Pay cash. If WhatsApp has no English, send the pin and the dates. If a local site wants a fee abroad, skip it and go to the door.
