Best time to visit Syria
April, May, and October walk the old-city circuit. September is still a heat bag. Summer is shade and early starts. Winter is a fleece. The coast is extra nights.

When should I go?
If you can choose: April, May, or October. Those are the walking months for the old cities and the castle. Evenings cool. Long-run Aleppo tables put April around 22°C by day, May and October in the high 20s. July and August sit around 35°C. September is still in the low 30s there — a heat bag, not October. That is the packing fact. A 15-day stamp covers a week in any season.
What do I pack?
This table is the old-city circuit: Damascus, Homs, Hama, Aleppo, Krak, Palmyra if the Homs desk sends you. It is not a beach week.

Summer
Walk at opening, then again in the evening. Midday in July is not the souq hour. Palmyra and Krak have stone and sun. Start early or drop the desert day.
The coast (Latakia, Tartus) is the swimming season. It is not the seven-day line. Most first visits skip it. Arabic farm pages will send you there in August. That is a different holiday.
GAC: May to October is the dry, hot stretch inland. Dust can blow. Leave slack. Do not freeze a day’s forecast here.
Winter
You can still do the circuit. A Belgian independent walked it in December: cold, especially in Aleppo, and still walked. Rain, not snow, is the usual Damascus problem. Aleppo can freeze at night. Pack a fleece. Museum hours shorten. Confirm at the door — city pages already say so.
Ramadan
The month moves every year. Global Affairs, updated 1 September 2026, expects the 2027 month around 7 February. Confirm the moon for your year. We will not freeze a 2026 calendar that has already passed.
By day, some kitchens close or only serve iftar. Reports from the first post-Assad Ramadan said many Damascus restaurants shut until sunset; some stayed open. Evening iftar tables were ordinary again in 2026 notes. Pack lunch. Eat after sunset. The stamp and the garage still run.

If this fails
- You can only fly in August: early starts, shade, water. Drop Palmyra if the Homs desk that morning is ugly with heat.
- You can only fly in September: still a heat bag. It is not October.
- You can only fly in January: layers. The week still fits a 15-day stamp.
- A farm says never go in summer: people do. Change the hours, not the country.
- You wanted a beach week: that is the coast, not this circuit. Latakia and Tartus.
