Great Mosque

Cover up, shoes off, confirm at the door whether the hall is open. The Great Mosque is the Umayyad mosque in the Aleppo souq, not the one in Damascus. If they wave you in, go. The shrine inside is Zakariya — Zechariah to Christians — if the hall is open. You do not need a tour. Clothes are on What to wear in Syria. Checked 13 September 2026.

Courtyard of the Great Mosque of Aleppo
Hours
An Arabic note on 24 August 2026 said the hall was finished and taking worshippers and visitors. A 6 August 2026 Awqaf interview still described last touches on the courtyard and minaret. 2025 reports treated it as a worksite, with a Ramadan-only prayer opening. There is no visitor timetable. Friday the mosque is for worship first — do not treat Friday noon as a sightseeing slot. Confirm at the door.
Ticket
Muslims enter to pray if the door is open. We do not print a tourist ticket for this mosque. The 2026 operator sheet that quotes 25,000 is the Damascus Umayyad, not this door. Some undated pages say free or a donation. Carry pounds in case they ask. Confirm at the door.
Respect
Cover shoulders and knees. Women: a scarf of your own, or the robe at the door if they hand one — bring the scarf. Men: no shorts. Shoes off. Do not photograph people at prayer. Friday is for worship first. You do not need a guide to dress or to enter.
