Jdeideh
The quieter quarter northwest of the citadel. Jdeideh — also written al-Jdayde — is Aleppo’s old Christian quarter. Churches, courtyards, an evening table after the mound. Not a monument list. This is where you sit after the citadel. Cash pounds at the table; a hotel may want dollars. Tea and juice are the evening. - Hours
- The streets are always there. This is the old quarter, not the western housing district called New Aleppo. Churches: modest dress, as for a mosque minus the robe. Confirm if you want a specific door. There is no visitor timetable.
- Respect
- It is a neighbourhood. Do not treat courtyards as a set. Cash pounds at the table; ask new or old if the board looks old. You do not need a tour to sit down. You do not need a restaurant ranking.
